Review | Patches Thai Restaurant ★★★★★

Patches Thai Restaurant (also called Patcharawan’s) in Angeles City is, you guess it, a Thai food restaurant. They most certainly cater to local people rather than the tourist crowd, as their out of the way location makes it too cumbersome for most tourists to get to.

Patches Thai Restaurant is one of the better reviewed restaurants in Angeles City, which has left me scratching my head. The food is passable, but certainly below average Thia food. It’s nothing I would ever go back for.

The restaurant is shabby, which in this part of the world is to be expected, but it felt particularity unclean here. Not sure why, but it kind of like there was a layer of grim covering everything, even though there wasn’t.

It got me thinking; does this place get good reviews simply because it’s one of the few Thai food places in the area? Or were they really amazing in the past and are now just coasting off the good will? Hard to say.

What Really Turned Me Off

Ready Steady Travel - Adventures in The Philippines, Angeles City: Review Patches Thai Restaurant
The Staff Busy Ignoring Me at Patches Thai Restaurant (G. McGregor/ https://pawprintphoto.net)

One of the main things that put me off to Patches is that when I entered none of the staff greeted me or even paid any attention to me. There is an air-conditioned room in the back with tables, which I had no idea about and would have preferred to sit in. It would have been great if someone on the staff had informed of me of that and offered me the choice of where to sit. I never received a menu, and I had to look at a big board above the cash register. No one came to take my order, I had to literally yell for someone to come over and talk to me.

Then there’s the food, which just doesn’t taste Thai. Maybe it’s because they have adapted their food to please the locals or maybe it’s never tasted right, I can’t say. I can only say that as a frequent visitor of Thailand and one who’s taken a dozen cooking courses in Thailand, this wasn’t Thai food. As I said above, it’s ok but it didn’t scratch my itch for Thai food.

If you’re visiting Angeles City, don’t bother wasting your time to getting out to Patches Thai Restaurant. It’s best to skip this place and look for better quality food elsewhere.
