Review | San Agustin Church ★★★★★
The San Agustin Church in Manila is another house of worship located in the Intramuros area, just a stone’s throw away from all the another fantastic museums and south of the more famous Cathedral of Manila. While the Cathedral of Manila is only worth a quick drop by, the San Agustin Church is worthy of a lot more of your time.
Unlike most churches in the Philippines, this one has an entrance fee and it’s a little steep for the country. I had some reservations about entering, but after checking it out I feel like it’s worth it.
For starters, the church seems largely ignored, with most people giving their attention to the Cathedral of Manila. I mainly had the place to myself, with the except of a few staff members I saw cleaning up around the gardens. I was left to myself to explore most of the areas beyond the museum. You have access to most everywhere inside the church grounds, I ended up spending over 90 minutes exploring. There’s also far more religious art and treasures to see scattered around the grounds, making exploration feel very rewarding.
For all these reasons, you should try to set aside an hour or more to see San Agustin. If you still have time, you can then check out the Cathedral of Manila.
