Review: Maple House ★★★★

Boasting a few locations around town, including inside the 21st Century Art Museum and Kanazawa station, Maple House is the place for cakey delights in the Hokuriku region. Several of their locations offer sit down service with real food, but you should give all that a hard skip. Most of their savory options are overpriced and poorly done.

Instead, visit one of their locations that only offer take-away and opt only for something sweet. Most of their cakes are excellently prepared, but their stand out item is their cream puff, or shu cream as they are called in Japanese.

The cream puffed are filled with a hand pump after you order them, ensuring that outer shell is crispy while the cream inside is moist and creamy. For maximum enjoyment, they should be consumed immediately, as the cream will eventually make outer shell soggy. Better still, is the very reasonable price of ¥100 ($1) per cream puff. You can’t beat that!

In my opinion, it’s best to stick with Maple House’s standard shu cream version and avoid anything seasonal, like their Sakura Shu Cream.

The easiest Maple House location to visit is the Daiwa Korinbo shop, since it really close to some of the main sights. Maple House is located in the basement of the shopping center. There are a number of shops down there, so you might need to take a lap or two to find it. Definitely well worth the effort. As a bonus, you might also find some other tasty treats.
