Review | Vigan Food Market ★★★★★
The Vigan Food Market, not to be confused with the Vigan City Public Market, is hands down the best place to go if you want to sample the regions traditional foods, like the aptly named Vigan empanada, longganisang iloko, or the outstanding bagnet (deep-fried pork belly).
The Market is an opened-air structures that houses about a dozen food vendors. They all work independently of each other, but there’s no issues with buying from more than one vendor. When I was there, I saw cooked and ready to eat food for sale, however I’ve seen photos suggesting the market used to be more far more robust, selling fruits, vegetables, and meats. I can only assume that Covid did a lot of damage to the market and tourism in the area.
There are a number of seats and tables that are next to the food stalls, or you can take your food to go and head over to Plaza Burgos, which is just 50m west of the food market.
The prices are super cheap and the variety of local foods is fantastic, making this a much better option than actual restaurants in the city. Keep in mind that each shop probably keeps their own hours, so early in the morning or at night the number of options might be less.
