Review | Pares Mami House ★★★★★
Pares Mami House is the original Filipino greasy spoon. The restaurant has roots going back all the way to 1989 (some say 1979; can’t confirm the real date). Don’t come expecting fancy treats. This is the place you come when you want to get down and dirty after a night of getting down and dirty. It’s Filipino comfort food, so set your expectations accordingly. Expect cheap prices, fast service, and tasty diner food.
Pares was actually the first place I ate in the Philippines. Their branch in Makati appears to have closed, which is really unfortunate. There are branches all over Manila, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one.
Now, if you’re unsure what to order, go with the combination that’s won the hearts of locals; beef stew, sinangag (fried rice), and siomai (a type of Chinese dumpling). I am also very fond of their pork silog (fried pork and egg on a bed of rice).
