Review | Emilie’s Gotohan & Eatery ★★★★★
Emilie’s Gotohan & Eatery was an amazing find in the northern city of Laoag, Philippines. You won’t find her restaurant in any travel books or websites, and it was just dumb luck that I stumbled upon her magical little eatery. Located in a little food park across the street from the District 1 nightclub (or SuperClub, as they call it), this is the perfect place for traditional Filipino food before a night out, or even during a night out.
The biggest draw for me to Emilie’s Gotohan & Eatery, besides the awesome food, is Emilie herself. She is so friendly and warm. She is genuinely interested in getting you to try the different foods she’s made, to the point offering some dishes for free. At least this is how she treated me. Honestly, you just don’t find that kind of love in most places. The only way to get her to stop giving me food was to insists I was beyond full.
As mentioned, the food was really good. I had over a dozen different dishes there, and I really liked everything she gave me. She named off everything she brought to the table, but honestly I can’t remember the names.
The restaurant is opened air, with a roof over top. Don’t expect any pretension. Just some wooden and plastic furniture, great food, and a warm host with a big heart.
