Review ★★★★★
Located closer to the south side of town, right off the King’s Highway. The church looks plain from the outside, but it houses an incredible floor mosaic of the Twelve Apostles that was created in 568AD.
Most of the hotels, ours included, are located in the north of the city, so this will probably closer to end of your walk. At least that’s how it ended up for us. By the time we got down we were burnt out, and we just didn’t care that much. It does have a fairly large floor mosaic, but it’s dark inside and most everything is roped off. If you are with a guide, which you should do if you’ve come down here, you’ll get access to the roped off sections. We could find any guides or information booths when we visited, so it seems that you have to hire someone in town and bring them with you.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a hassle to do all that for a leisurely day around Madaba. The Church of the Apostles is quite skippable if you’re doing a leisurely day around Madaba. If you’re down for the hassle of arranging a guide and walk to the other side town, than go for it. If you’re not a completionist, you’ll sleep just fine at night not having seen this one.
