Review ｜ The Coffee Lab & Lounge ★★★★★
The Coffee Lab is an upscale cafe/restaurant located just far enough away from Walking Street to keep the riffraff out. The place looked like it was aimed more towards well off Filipino than Westerners. The interior is nicely decorated, and they even have outside tables. Since they are on a very busy street, can’t see that one being much of a draw.
So, right off the bat; I want to give this place more stars. The coffee was pretty good. They have a large variety of styles you can choose from, like Vietnamese egg coffee (one of my favorites). The problems I had here were ones of communication breakdown.
They have a fancy POS system which didn’t seem to be working like it should. For starters, there are a number of options on the menu which weren’t available. What’s the point of having an electronic menu if you aren’t updating it with what’s available? I ordered 3 different styles of coffee, only to have the poor waitress come back each time and say it wasn’t available. I ended up just having a standard latte. The kicker is, when I was leaving I said to the manager that I wanted to come back and try the egg coffee cause it wasn’t available today, and was told it was available. WTF!?! Well, that’s how things go in the Philippines.
Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely give this place another try to see if they have ironed out all the kinks. Certainly their selection and taste is worth it.
