Review: Petra Moon ★★★

We spent three nights at the Petra Moon Hotel and honestly we don’t have any complaints about our stay. We booked through a 3rd party website and the cost was a little over $50 a night for a double room. Disappointingly, it appears the prices have tripled since we were there. Ouch.

The hotel was clean and the staff was agreeable. Our stay was uneventful. Nothing stood out as particularly memorable. Looking back, I suppose this was a more comfortable hotel than the majority of the places we stayed while in Jordan. That said, nothing compelled us to snap a photo or even write a review after we left. I’m not saying that as a bad thing. The Petra Moon served its purpose as being a clean and reliable place to bunk down in.

While it was a pleasant stay, I don’t think there was anything extraordinary about it. We were coming from Wadi Rum, so we had just spent 2 nights in the desert sleeping under the stars without a bathroom. No showers, no toilets, no shelter. We were happy to have anything when we arrived, filthy and leaving a trail of sand behind us.

Location, Location, Location!

Our main reason for choosing the Petra Moon Hotel, beyond the price, was because it’s really close to the entrance to Petra, about 100 meters up a hill from the gate, and that they have parking. We were not keen on parking on the street. We also really didn’t want to deal with parking at the Petra site, or any added commute time going back and forth. Combined with the fair price, this was an attractive place to stay. At $150 a night I’m not sure I still feel that way.

They do offer a complimentary breakfast, but we missed it all three days we were there. No fault on them. We more concerned with seeing Petra than anything the hotel had to offer.

If you can find a good price, then I would recommend staying. If not, there is no shortage of other hotels in the area.

As per usual, the prices on their dedicated site run about double what you find on the 3rd party sites, so we recommend booking from somewhere like Agoda.
