Review: Okro’s Natural Wine Restaurant ★★★★★
Okro’s Natural Wine Restaurant was a mixed bag for me. On one hand, the wine was 5 stars all the way! I like what I drank and even brought a bottle home. The dry reds are the standouts here. They were nothing short of amazing, and what you should be coming for. I also sampled a rosé, which was good, but didn’t reach the level of the reds I drank.
I was less won over by the food. My starter, eggplant with walnuts, was to die for. My main dish, pork Okra style, not so much. Perhaps my expectations were too high after my appetizer, but I thought the cut of pork I had was overly fatty, and far too boney. The chef also used too much salt for my taste.
Service can be on the slow side, even when they are not busy. It’s livable though. Certainly not the slowest service I’ve had. Things in Georgia tend to move on their own time. Beyond the incredible view, this is why I recommend sitting out on the terrace. There is nothing finer to do in Sighnaghi than whittling the time away with a glass of fine wine, watching the scenery.
Dessert seems to be permanently sold out, so do as I did and opt for another glass of wine.
Prices are ok, considering how touristy the town is.
All things considered, this is a good option for dinner.
