Review: Mystic Pizza ★★★★

We were in a rush to get to Little Petra and we just wanted something quick for lunch. So we decided to give Mystic Pizza a try.

We had been to a few amazing restaurants, which are practically next-door to Mystic Pizza. We have a long standing rule of not revisiting restaurants though.

Also, you can only eat so much kabob and pitas before you hit a wall and just want something different.

The Perfect Trap

One Crappy Large Pizza & One Very Unimpressed Naomi (G. McGregor/ https://pawprintphoto.net)

Located 50 meters outside the Petra Visitor Center on the apply named Tourism Street, Mystic Pizza is the most likely restaurant you’ll encounter after you leave Petra. This is all part of the trap. High prices, about $14 for a ‘large’ pizza, and poor quality make this a no go.

While it’s not the worst pizza we’ve had, that honor goes to Machu Pizza, it is very close to the bottom of the list. We got the impression that the pizza crust is prepared off site, i.e. not fresh. Generally it just wasn’t right for pizza. Our pie had little sauce, and from what we had it tasted bland. There was a lot of cheese, but sadly that was also bland. As already noted, it was expensive, not just because of the lackluster quality but for the portion size of the food. For what we paid here, we could have gotten a real large pie in NY, which would be double the size, with money left over.

Wadi Musa and Petra are very touristy, but there are some great places to eat, surprisingly. Avoid Mystic Pizza and keep walking a little longer up the hill. No more than 20 meters further and you’ll be standing in front of My Mom’s Recipe, which is a million times better.

Perhaps you might be mystified in how Mystic Pizza stays in business, but with a steady flow of unbeknownst tourist coming everyday to see Petra it’s fairly easy to see how they stay in business.
