Review | Mater Carmeli Monastery ★★★★★
The Mater Carmeli Monastery, located 75km north of Angeles or 15km north of the small city of Tarlac, is a pleasant little monastery that’s well off the beaten path of many. Unless you’re visiting around Mass time, you probably won’t see many people around. I was there around early noon and I didn’t see a single person my entire time there. The church was opened though and I was free to roam around. The lack of people just added to the calming atmosphere of the church.
While it is a small place to explore, the exterior of the church is what makes it a worthwhile stop. The interior is not as impressive, but it’s pleasant and nice to duck into during a hot day to get some shelter from the sun. There are some small gardens there as well with a few statues to check out.
You can cover everything here in less than thirty minutes, unless you’re staying for a Mass. While it is a quick stop, it is satisfying.
If you are doing your own road trip around the area, you should definitely be visiting Monasterio de Tarlac, which is around a half hour away as the crow flies. The church there is less impressive, but the surrounding area is incredible and well worth the effort to get there.
