Review | Intramuros ★★★★★
Intramuros, the famous walled city, is Manila’s main historical sight. The area itself is big and sprawling, covering quite a large area to walk around. While Intramuros is free, and there a things in the area to see for free, like the defensive walls and the Cathedral of Manila, there are also a number of sights within the area that have an entrance fee. Not limited to but including San Agustin Church, Fort Santiago, Museo de Intramuros, Baluarte de San Diego, and a host of smaller churches and museums.
One could easily spend a day here walking around and exploring every last inch. For anyone tighter on time, a few hours is enough to hit all the highlights. It’s better to come early to beat the heat.
There is no shortage of restaurants and cafes dotted around the area, but expect inflated prices due to it being such a high traffic tourist area. As well, there a good number of touts around to pester people about tours. Most of these tours include riding around the district in a horse drawn buggy. If you plan to hire one, make sure the price and all the tour details are clearly worked out before starting off.
