Review | Duli Beach Resort ★★★★★

Duli Beach Resort was a very unique stay, to be sure. After some major disappointments in the El Nido area, we weren’t really sure what to expect.

As far as accommodations are concerned, this is a really bare-bones place. The bungalows are made of a thin plastic, kind of like of a thick tarp to pulled taunt. There is very limited electricity, like just a few a hours a day, so there won’t be anything like AC or lights. The limited infrastructure around the area means there are limited venues for food/drink, so you actually ended up boxed into having most of your meals at the resort. All this comes at a bit of a premium prices for the Philippines.

That all might sounds like a big downer, and on paper it looks that way, but they have manged to turn all those things into major positives for staying. The limited infrastructure keeps the hordes of tourists away. The lack of electric makes the night pitch black and enjoyable. Instead of having to endure another local band hitting all the moldy standards, you can enjoy the sounds of the waves. You can actually see the night sky in all it’s glory. Waking up in the morning, you are just steps away from the beach and refreshing morning swim. The resort only has six bungalows, so it all feels very exclusive. It also doesn’t hurt that the bungalows, resort area, and the whole beach that stretches far beyond, are kept exceptionally pristine.

The owners, Max and Elma, are incredibly kind. We had breakfast/dinner with them every day and they were happy to chat and share advice on what to do in the area. Their suggestions were invaluable. They also have scuba gear, surf boards, and various equipment to rent, and offer classes on surfing, which I got a chance to do (scratch surfing off the bucket list).

If you’re looking to get away from the over-tourism of El Nido, this is really the place to go. You won’t find another location as laid back and grounded. The only regret we had was not staying longer. If ever we find our way back to Palawan, this is the place that will on the top of our list.
