Review | Cathedral of Manila ★★★★★
The Cathedral of Manila is one of the best looking church in the Manila area, no doubt about it. Located in the Intramuros area, and just a stone’s throw away from all the another fantastic museums. For that reason alone, the church is a great place to stop by.
Conceived of in the late 16th-century, the cathedral has gone through many re-birthings. The current version of the church is actually the eight incantation, so it’s gone through many different phases, radical changes and renovations over the years.
Like many churches in the Philippines, the cathedral is a bit of a let down for most typical tourists. I’m sure it’s a lovely place to attend a service, but there’s little to see or do here. Unlike the churches found in Europe or Latin America, there won’t be much to hold your attention inside and you can only sit and stare at the bell tower for so long.
Expect to stay for only a few minutes here, unless you stop to rest in Plaza Roma in front of the church, which seems like a great place to relax and drink something cool. There was actually a wedding happening when I visited, which was pretty cool to see.
A far better use of your time is heading a few blocks south to the San Agustin Church, which has a museum and far more areas to explore.
