Review | Biryani Kitchen ★★★★★
Biryani Kitchen is an Indian restaurant right in the center of El Nido town. We dropped into this place on a whim after getting turned away from Big Bad Thai because they didn’t have any openings. We didn’t have any real expectations and had read nothing about this restaurant beforehand.
I have to admit that the place smells amazing. The aroma of spices fills the street in front of the restaurant that’s just so inviting. Food presentation and atmosphere felt authentic enough. Sadly, and there’s no easy way to say this, the food just didn’t live up to the preview. To begin with, the curries we had were bland. Not sure why the amazing fragrance didn’t translate into the food. There also wasn’t much meat in the curries; just one lonely piece of chicken in each bowl. The naan was on the petite size and anorexic. Honestly, there’s nothing more disappointing than an Indian restaurant that can’t potion their naan to meet their amount of curry. It very much smacks as a ploy to get diners to purchase additional naan. Considering their prices, which are well above Filipino averages, the food portions and amount of meat were stingy.
While most everything in El Nido town is a tourists trap, many of the better restaurants at least try to give you value for your money. Not so much here. Sadly, they aren’t any other Indian restaurants in town, so give Indian food a miss while in the area.
