Review | El Nido Viewdeck Cottages ★★★★★
El Nido Viewdeck Cottages was a huge disappointment. This place could have been amazing, and maybe in the past it was a great place. The main issue is that this hotel over promises and under delivers, big time. It’s not a cheap place to stay either, which makes the sting even worse.
The location of the hotel is outside of the center of town, but still walkable. Perched on a hill that at one time gave fantastic views, but now is become obscured by ugly buildings (see below). The walk up and down the hotel’s property is steep at points, and can be quite tiring when trying to solve a problem. You seen, none of the rooms are equipped with phones to contact the front desk if you a guest has an issue, and staying here you most like have an issue. So you will need to be prepared to walk up and down a lot when trying to get help.
We stayed in different rooms over non-consecutive stays, and the main issue we continuously had was lack of hot water. This is an amenity specifically promised, but not delivered on. What’s worse is that we also experienced no water at all. It’s really crappy to return after a day of being out in the sun, covered in sun block and sweat, and just wanting to clean off and not being able to.
The truth is the staff and owners are well aware that some rooms have little to no water pressure, and they just shrug their shoulders. What I imagine has happened is that the hotel has expanded beyond the means of the land and there simply isn’t enough resources to meet the demand. The hotel has seemingly responded to this by expanding further, so the problem will only get worse in the future.

The comfort of the room also leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms are dark and musty with old AC units that clearly haven’t been cleaned in a long time. The walls are thin so you hear everything happening in adjacent rooms. God help you if your neighbor turns on the TV, as it will probably sound louder for you than for them.
As is for most places in PH, the local staff is nice. But nice isn’t enough when you are forking out over $100 for a lackluster room. Breakfasts were pretty much ok. You get the standard choices you find in many hotels.
Beyond that, there isn’t much to cheer about here. We simply can’t recommend this hotel. There are better places to stay, or at least cheaper places.
