Review | Pahinga Coffee ★★★★★
Pahinga Coffee is the proverbial needle in a haystack, for more than one reason. Good coffee can be a little hard to come by in Laoag. Most coffee shops in the area are only good at serving up disappointment. Pahinga is also a hard cafe to find as it’s tiny. Blink and you’ll miss it as you’re driving by.
If you’re looking for real coffee, from a bean, not a premade powder from a factory in China, this is the place to go. They have food on hand as well, but not really sweets. It’s more hardy meals like lasagna, rather than cookies or cake. It’s a big of an odd combination, as it feels like they don’t know if they want to be a cafe or a restaurant. While this doesn’t bode well for pairing your coffee with something sweet, the quality of the coffee more than makes up for this shortcoming.
Pahinga is about outside the city center, so you’ll need to hire a tricycle or have your own transportation to get there. It’s only about a five minute drive from the city center, but not really that walkable. Honestly though, it’s totally worth the price of a tricycle for the quality of the coffee. It is a hard shop to spot for the first time. I actually had to park my motorbike and carefully look around to find it. It’s right on the main road, but it’s tiny and easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
The shop has very limited indoor seating, so plan on taking your order to go. Do note it’s somewhat late opening time, which is a bummer for anyone like me that is looking for their morning caffeine fix.
