Review ｜ McCafé ★★★★★
McCafé, or Mind Control Cafe, located just a quarter kilometer west of Walking Street, is a bit of a strange place. If you’re walking around the center of town, you can’t miss it. The big white building and huge red letters really catch the eye. The fact that they call themselves McCafé also makes one think you’re going to an off-brand McDonald’s, which was a turn off for me. Mind Control Cafe is far better name and just can’t understand why they don’t use that, but I digress. Curiosity did get the better of me and I decided to give the places a try.
The cafe has a spacious area with ample seating. It’s well kept and clean with perhaps too many staff members working the counter for the amount of customers around. Service was adequate though and the coffee was really nice. Finding a good cup of coffee in the Philippines can be a challenge, so I welcome any place that does a decent cup. They have a display full of cakes and treats, which I opted out of, but they looked tasty. They also offer a full menu of food, which I also didn’t try.
I decided to ‘dine in’ to see what the experience was like at the cafe, which is much more akin to a Starbucks than a McDonald’s. For some reason, they did serve me in a disposable cup, which was disappointing. If I’m eating in, I prefer to have a real cup. But this did give me the option to pick and go whenever I wanted. They also offer WiFi, which was welcoming.
