Hotel Review ｜ Ciudad Fernandina ★★★★★
The Ciudad Fernandina Hotel was a nice find in Vigan city. Located in the historical center in a Colonial-style building dating from 1758, the hotel offers a much more unique stay than an average hotel. While this concept is not unique in Vigan city, this looked to be one of the better options.
The exterior of the hotel is simply stunning. I was really impressed when I arrived and saw the whole mansion lit up at night. This is one of the few buildings that appears to have had major restoration work done to it. While the outside is a joy to look at, the actual rooms you will be staying in are on the small side. Fortunately, they are very clean and well maintained.
There are a few nice touches, like the water cooler on the first floor and the outdoor patio to enjoy breakfast on. On that top, breakfast was included at no additional cost and was surprisingly amazing. It included some local favorites, like longganisang iloko, making the stay all the more worthwhile.
On the down side, don’t expect anything outstanding from the staff, which is par for the course in the Philippines. My interactions were nice enough with the people working the front desk. They held a few of of my belongings after I checked out. On the flip side they were quite unhelpful when I inquired about buses and getting to Vigan city.
Prices can vary wildly, between $50 to $100. If you can find a good deal on a 3rd party website, it’s recommended. Not sure the service and amenities warrant the higher end prices though.
